The pram is still very handy for carrying the shopping when you are babywearing!

Wow! Honestly, I have never really thought about 'Saying No to Pushchairs' at all. Disconnected parenting - a very interesting topic also...

I am a pushchair user, but I have to admit I have a buggy that can face both in (facing the pusher) and out (looking out at the world) and I always have my 10 month old facing me. When we go out for walks together it is much easier to chat with him and look into his beautiful blues! He never gets distressed/bored/unhappy when out and about and I think he does always like to be able to see me.

A friend has an acquaintance doing research on the effects of babies facing out in pushchairs and language development as they are unable to watch or be involved in discussions. I'm sorry, I am unaware of the details.

That would be interesting reading Charlie :) Another downer to my buggy!! Might have been a wee bit of a waste of $500 after all this reading up on the benefits of baby wearing vs pram... Imagine the carriers I could've bought with that... :(

Ya know what.... I kept thinking of this thread during the weekend, while on holiday in Christchurch, when pretty much the whole time DS (10mo) flat out REFUSED to go in his pram
After a 7hour drive up there, there was NO way he was going to be strapped into that buggy. I had thought it out well that he could have his morning/afternoon sleep in it, considering we were on the move the whole time, and it would be familiar for him, and give me a break (was going to have him awake in the ergo so I could shop/try on clothes etc)

But noooo. Screaming every time he went in there. So there we were, the twits pushing the empty buggy the whole time carrying the baby. Jeez the looks we got! Haha
All I can say is thank goodness for the ergo.

But do ya know how hard it is to try on pants while you have a sleeping baby strapped to your chest?!!?!!!??

I bought a Manduca :D So happy!! It's my mothers day present (covering the next few years!!!), Ecomoon had 20% off so decided I couldn't pass that up, even though I've entered the competition to win one. I can have two!!

Tried it out today... was a major fail. BUT Joseph had had a big day before then, we had spent around 2 hours at the airport dropping his Grandad off (he's off for a huge 3 month overseas holiday!), then we had a Plunket Education in Schools class, so we'd been out and about for around 4 hours in total. I put him in the manduca to walk the dog (poor dog was soooo excited about going for a walk only to be very disappointed that it didn't happen), and he'd cry and cry :( Then I'd take him out & put him on the ground for a play and bam - happy! I tried it 3 times (very disappointed dog 3 times!!) before I gave up for today. I think he must've just wanted to have some "alone" time playing on the floor with some toys. (And before you worry about the dog, the instant DH walked in the door I took her out, before it got too dark). He better like it tomorrow cos I have lent my pram out till Sunday and am now going to meet some friends at the mall... If he doesn't like it I'll have two very tired arms!!

I couldn't leave him in there to cry, I never do any other time so why should I have then was my way of thinking. He was happy in arms, I don't blame him, he was sick of travelling!

I've mastered using the ladies while he's asleep on me, so thats one step in the right direction at least, LOL!

I've got a manduca on the way, just wondering (possibly a stupid Q) but in the ergo I put wallet, keys, phone, inhaler, hat and bib in the pocket....... Where do you keep that stuff in the manduca? Cos it doesn't have a pocket does it?

Chantal, one thing I found when I first started wearing Willem- he was probably a wee bit younger than Joseph, was to start off holding most of his weight, and do the carrier up really loosely, then over the space of say 5-10mins do the carrier up a bit tigher every minute or so. I think cos it was quite a different way for him to be held, he wasn't so keen on it to start off with, but he got used to it reeeaaaally quickly!!! Also try and sit down and give him (and yourself!) a break often, don't expect him to be happy in there for long periods of time straight away. Willem now gets reeeaal grumpy if hes in there awake and I stop moving, so I'm always dancing and jiggling away haha!

nope, its the one issue i have with the manduca :?
i use my ergo bag that velcroes on around the waist band, if you didn't want o buy one it should be easy enough to knock one up in your favourite coordinating material :D
